Cleverly targets world class southpaw sparring in the states

Nathan Cleverly isn’t becoming complacent as Great Britain’s only world champion as he plans a gruelling training camp ahead of his 3rd WBO world light-heavyweight title defence.

Cleverly fights American southpaw Tommy Karpency at the Motorpoint (former C.I.A) Arena on February 25th. Having not fought in Wales since 2007, Cleverly wants a homecoming to remember and he won’t be taking the challenger lightly as he’s willing for a stint in the states if that’s what it takes for elite level preparation.

“Guys like Lucian Bute, Andre Dirrell and Denis Lebedev are good southpaw guys, they are the world class southpaws in my weight range. We could potentially look at them for some sparring.” commented Cleverly.

He continued, “It would be world class sparring and something could be arranged if we want it. We’ll definitely look into that and see if we can arrange that in the next couple of weeks.”

“I’m willing to travel to get that sparring. It would be a change if we had to travel to America or something to get that sparring, then so be it. It would be a change of environment for me and a change to put me out of my comfort zone so it’ll get me used to that as well.”

It will be broadcasted live and exclusively on BoxNation (Sky ch456, Virgin Media ch546).

Tickets are priced at £40, £50, £75, £100, £120 and are available from www.frankwarren.tv and www.livenation.co.uk.
