WBO world light-heavyweight champion Nathan Cleverly has highlighted that American challenger Tommy Karpency has nothing to lose in their February 25th fight and he won’t take anything for granted when they meet at the Motorpoint Arena.
25-year-old Karpency will make his world level debut when he meets Cleverly, while the Welshman will be making his 3rd defence of the title he won in May 2011 but the Welshman is wary of Karpency who’s won his last 2 fights by early knockouts.
Cleverly said, “He’s got a decent record on paper, 24 fights with 21 wins. He’s tough, I don’t think he’s ever been stopped and he’s coming off a 1st round knockout victory. He’s going to be game and he’s going to be confident, he’s got nothing to lose.”
“It’s always potentially dangerous; it’s another trained fighter in the corner so you can’t take anything for granted. I’m looking to put on a good display against my opponent and put on a good display in front of my home fans.” added the undefeated Welshman.
“He’s been up at cruiserweight so he’s used to the bigger, heavier boys. That could be an advantage to him but I don’t look too much into that. I think that ultimately we’re both going to be light-heavyweights on the night and I think it’s a good chance for me to show off my boxing skills.”
It will be broadcasted live and exclusively on BoxNation (Sky ch456, Virgin Media ch546).
Tickets are priced at £40, £50, £75, £100, £120 and are available from www.frankwarren.tv and www.livenation.co.uk.
